The R.I.G.H.T. proposal will reduce the incidence of homeowners being forced to sell their homes resulting from excessive tax increases. This could reduce the number of homes being sold. I suppose some might interpret this as a negative for the real estate industry. We believe that it is a real plus when people can sell their homes when they want to instead of being forced out by speculation in the real estate market. And it could even help a sale to tell a buyer that his or her property taxes would never increase more than the cap on the tax levy, currently 4%. I hope we can all agree it is a good thing to encourage stable communities and preserve neighborhoods and home ownership. The R.I.G.H.T. plan will do just that and make Rhode Island a great place to buy a home or locate a business. |
We, the undersigned, respectfully request that the proposals offered by R.I.G.H.T. be used as a model to stimulate legislative discussion, debate and ultimately to restore fairness in property tax procedures. Kimberly Aguiar Know someone hurt by soaring property taxes? We'd love to talk to them.
