Property Tax
Are you paying more than your fair share?

For Lawmakers

The R.I.G.H.T. proposal will require new legislation and modification of existing law. Such legislation has been drafted already.  Some have expressed concerns about the constitutionality of the proposal but the Solicitor of North Kingstown has examined this in detail and it is his conclusion that there is no conflict.

Article 1 Section 2 of the Rhode Island Constitution states that the "... burdens of the state ought to be fairly distributed among its citizens".

In fact our current system which results in thousands of citizens receiving lower taxes to be paid for by excessive increases for others might even be a violation of this Article.

We urge the Legislature to examine the R.I.G.H.T. Proposal in a special committee. Rhode Island can have a tax system which is Consistent, Predictable and Reasonable - something which benefits all, something which could make Rhode Island business friendly and people friendly .
